Tips – General to Lenticular Technology
Lenticular foils consist of an array of cylindrical lenses.
Through the optical properties of these lenses are two (or more) images, the interlaced (interleaved) under the film are depicted in different directions. In this way it is possible to display two or more image information spatially separated from an image out. Change image effects / Flip

If the lens curve is vertical, then make the switch when tilting the image takes about the vertical axis (or in larger formats in passing). Animation, zoom, morph
Also in principle alternating images, but with more than two or three “discrete” stages. The viewer sees when pivoting the image the expiry of individual frames in rapid succession. The stages are not isolated to 100%, so that the impression of uniform motion arises. Animations on narrow-angle films running at tilt very quickly. In wide-angle films of the required angle of tilt is larger, the motion appears slower.
For a stereoscopic image you need at least two output images that were (photographically example) included in the viewing distance. The viewer sees with his left eye, the images shot with the camera left and right with the eye the shot with the right camera image. As a result – as with the natural vision – the 3D impression. Since 3D Lenticularbilder usually from 6 (+) such juxtaposed and each interleaved stereoscopic image pairs are done, you can look at them a little from both sides around the object. The visual effect is close to the holography. In 3D Lenticularbildern the lenses are always perpendicular. The combination of Wechselbild- or animation effects with 3D rarely lead to satisfactory results. They are always a compromise.
Lenticular images are printed (very precisely adjusted to the lens profile) mirrored on the smooth back of the transparent lenticular sheet. It is very difficult to kontollieren the mechanical and thermal influences that affect the printing process on the lenticular film. Offset Lenticulardrucke have provided a quite fluctuating quality even within a production unit.
One can make printer quality Lenticularbilder with an inkjet. The pressure should be done with the highest quality setting of the printer on smooth dimensionally stable paper or plastic. Printed image and film are transparent glued together. In this way, short runs and large formats can be produced in a reproducible quality.
Sheets / plates
Lenticular foils or sheets are described on the number of lenses per inch (LPI). Common materials in high-resolution offset printing are: films with 100LPI, 75LPI, 62LPI, 50LPI, 40LPI. For ink jet printing to recommend lenses from 62LPI. At current disk printers can use materials from 40LPI. The higher the resolution of the printer is, the finer the lenses can be used.
Lenticular lenses types
There are lenses for flip (large angle) and lenses for 3D (small angle). Manufacturer side, the different materials are also provided with appropriate recommendations. Basically, a film does not exclude the other technology, it is usually but useful to adhere to the recommendations. Only for 3D qualified lenses make deep 3D and qualified only for flip lenses make clean flips and animations.
